Outdoor cooling

How much water does a misting system use?

Misting uses far less water than sprinklers, but the figure varies a lot by application — and by how the system is controlled.

The published ranges, per application

These are our own specification figures — not estimates. Note how much lower the cyclical applications are: mosquito and odor systems run in short cycles, so their consumption is measured per hour of operation rather than per minute.

The biggest lever is not the nozzles — it is the schedule

The same hardware can use half the water with better control logic.

  • Zone it: run only the tables, halls or stockpiles in use rather than the whole site.
  • Cycle, do not run continuously: for mosquito control, 5–10 minutes every 2–4 hours is the published cycle; continuous running wastes concentrate and water.
  • Trigger on conditions: temperature, humidity or dust sensors start the system when it is needed, not on a fixed clock.
  • Keep droplet size in range: undersized droplets drift away unused; oversized droplets wet surfaces and run off.

What that means for water supply

A domestic supply point is usually enough for terrace-scale cooling, but a large landscape fog or dust suppression installation is a different order of magnitude and needs a storage tank or a dedicated line. We calculate the supply requirement from your nozzle count and duty cycle and state it on the quotation — with the intake filtration (5 μm) specified at the same time so nozzles are protected.

Published specifications used in this guide

Cooling misting5–30 L/min, adjustable
Landscape fog10–120 L/min (depending on model)
Humidification3–8 L/min
Dust suppression4–15 L/min
Mosquito control (concentrate)0.3–2 L/h
Odor control (deodorant)0.5–3 L/h

Figures are our published specification ranges (or general market conditions where stated). Final configuration is confirmed per project in the written quotation.

Questions

How much water does a misting system use — the questions behind it

Is misting more efficient than sprinklers for cooling?

For cooling people, yes: misting cools the air while sprinklers cool surfaces and use much more water. For dust suppression the advantage is even clearer — water mist binds dust at the source with a fraction of the volume and without turning the site into mud.

Can I recycle water?

For open-air cooling, no: the water evaporates. For dust suppression at fixed points, runoff collection is sometimes possible on site, and we can design the layout to reduce runoff.

Where can I find the exact consumption for my system?

On the quotation. We state the nozzle count, the duty cycle and the resulting L/min or L/h so you can check it against the water available on site before ordering.
