Southeast Asia

Cooling outdoor dining in Thailand and Vietnam

In tropical Southeast Asia, misting is not about dry-heat cooling — it is about making a shaded terrace usable in the hours before the rain arrives.

Set expectations correctly — then the result pleases

Evaporative cooling depends on how much moisture the air can still take up. In Bangkok or Ho Chi Minh City on a humid afternoon the achievable drop is smaller than in Dubai, and pretending otherwise is how installations get a bad name. Where humidity is high, the practical combination is shade plus fans plus misting at moderate duty: the fans do the comfort work, the mist lowers air temperature where it can evaporate.

Design against the rain, not just the heat

This market has specific practical requirements, and they are all cheap if planned early:

  • A rain pause so cycles do not run uselessly during downpours
  • Pump and controls in a ventilated but sheltered position
  • Nozzles positioned so they are not permanently in a wet zone from run-off
  • Zoning by table block so an empty section of the terrace is not being cooled

Maintenance in a tropical climate

Algae, bacteria and biofilm in tanks are a real issue in this region. We specify sealed tanks where possible, filtered inlets (5 μm) and a cleaning interval, plus a seasonal flush before the hot season starts. Site water is often fine, but it is worth sending a sample description — hardness and iron content decide the maintenance schedule.

Questions

Common questions — Southeast Asia

How much cooling is realistic in humid conditions?

Less than in dry climates, and we would rather say so. In high-humidity afternoons the combined effect of shade, fans and misting is what makes a terrace comfortable; the mist contributes a real but smaller temperature reduction.

Can it run with the fans we already have?

Yes, and that is the configuration we recommend here. The same controller can switch fan circuits and misting zones, with temperature or humidity triggers deciding when each runs.

Will the system cope with the rainy season?

With a rain pause and sheltered pump position, yes. Systems installed for year-round operation usually run at reduced duty through the wet season.
