Mosquito control

How a mosquito misting system is installed (and retrofitted into a mature garden)

A typical garden system is a one-day installation: tubing along boundaries, nozzles on posts or fence lines, pump and tank out of sight. A finished garden is not a problem.

The sequence

Knowing the order helps you plan around the crew.

  • 1. Boundary walk — agree the nozzle positions on site, marking fences, walls and beds.
  • 2. Tubing run — fix the line at low level, hidden behind planting or along the fence base, avoiding irrigation lines and gas or power services.
  • 3. Nozzle fitting — heads on risers or brackets every ≈3.5 m, aimed inward and away from seating.
  • 4. Pump and tank — position in a sheltered, ventilated spot with water and power; install the inlet filter (5 μm).
  • 5. Pressure test and purge — run the system, flush debris, check every nozzle for an even pattern.
  • 6. Commissioning — set zones and cycle schedule, walk the client through the controller, hand over the drawings.

Retrofitting a finished garden

The usual worry is that installing means digging. It rarely does: tubing follows the fence line and the edge of planting beds, which are reachable in a mature garden. Where a path must be crossed, the line is either clipped to the underside of a step, run in a slim conduit on the surface, or taken around the obstacle. A garden that is already landscaped is normally easier, because the boundaries are defined.

What you receive with the equipment

Every system leaves with the documents your installer needs, which is also what makes self-installation realistic:

  • Nozzle layout drawing based on your boundary
  • Installation and commissioning guide
  • Specification sheet for the pump unit, nozzles and controls
  • Safety data sheet for any chemistry shipped
  • Spare-parts list, so you can reorder the same nozzle type later

Questions

Common questions — Mosquito control

Can the tubing be buried?

It can, and in some site layouts that is the cleanest option. It is agreed at survey stage: burying increases the work and should be planned before nozzles are fixed.

Will the nozzles be visible?

They are small and usually mounted below fence rails or among planting. Most clients notice them only when the system runs.

What maintenance does it need?

Filter cleaning and an annual nozzle check, plus a flush at the start of the season. Nozzles have a published service life of 2 years or more; the pump unit is specified at 5 years or more, and both types of spare are available separately.
