Mosquito control

How long does a mosquito misting tank last?

The answer is arithmetic, not opinion: area × cycles × minutes per cycle, divided by the dilution. Here is how to do it in two minutes.

The two-minute calculation

Take the duty cycle first, because it dominates everything else.

  • Duty per day = cycles per day × minutes per cycle. Two cycles of 8 minutes = 16 minutes; six cycles = 48 minutes.
  • Convert to hours of operation, then apply the published consumption of 0.3–2 L/h of diluted mixture depending on system size.
  • Divide by the dilution to get concentrate: at 1:100, one litre of diluted mixture contains 10 ml of concentrate.
  • Compare with the tank volume on the quotation — tank size is chosen so that a refill interval suits how often someone is on site.

Why cycles beat longer runs

Running one long cycle instead of several short ones does not save money. Mosquito activity is concentrated around dawn and dusk and after rain; three short cycles timed to those windows do more than one long afternoon cycle, and they use less concentrate. A medium garden on a two-cycle schedule is typically well under a litre an hour of diluted mixture, which is the published range for these systems (0.3–2 L/h).

Design decisions that reduce consumption

All of these are set at quotation stage and none of them costs much:

  • Split zones so only the area in use is treated
  • Use a rain or occupancy pause so cycles do not run when nobody is outside
  • Match the nozzle set to the boundary length — over-spray beyond the fence is pure waste
  • Keep the inlet filter clean so pressure and flow stay at the design point

Questions

How long does a mosquito misting tank last — the questions behind it

How often will I refill the tank?

It follows from the duty cycle you choose. Give us the area and the number of cycles per day and the quotation states the tank volume and the refill interval at that schedule.

Can the system warn me when the tank is low?

Yes — low-level indication and dry-run protection are available on the control unit, so the pump stops rather than running dry.

Does a bigger tank mean more chemical used?

No. Consumption is set by the nozzle count and the duty cycle, not by tank size. A larger tank simply means fewer refills.
